Framed Quilled Art : Quilled Flowers and Butterfly

This Quilling project made with the inspiration of calendula flowers.   I like calendula flowers very much because of their bright colours.  For this quilled frame work I made 2 types of calendula flowers.

For making orange quilled flower petals 2 types of shapes has used marquise and curved teardrops.  To get a shade in petals I used 2 shades of yellow strips .  Each petal is made using 24 c.m long and 3 m.m wide marquise surrounded by 2 curved teardrop shapes each with 12 c.m long and 3 m.m wide strips.
Remaining all the flowers are made using heart shape petals centered with a fringed flower. All the leaves are made with olive green color strips.

For this quilled frame work big butterfly bought good look and beauty.  Quilled butterfly is made with red white and black strips all are 3 m.m wide. Total finished work framed in a shadowbox  27x21 c.m.

Quilled Flower Basket

In the process of learning different quilling shapes and techniques I made good amount of different types of flowers and leaves.
I want to use all of them in one place rather through them here and there, this flower basket idea is the outcome :)

For the basket I used 1/8'' (3 m.m) width strips. Basket was made using waving technique which I learnt form  calire choi book "The Art of Quilling". Yellow, Blue and Pink Corn Flowers are made by following the instruction of claire choi blogLeaves are mostly made using husking technique. To arrange all the flowers and basket white card stock is used. To give the flowers a 3 dimensional appearance loose coils are used in the bottom of the flowers while glueing.

Size of finished art work is 6 1/2"x8 1/2" (16x22 c.m).

Birthday Card : Quilled Fringed Flowers

I designed this quilled birth day card for one of my friend's birthday.
This card was made after so many color combinations.

I’ve used 90 degree fringing tool to make fringed flowers,  embosing tool to make veins on leaves (see last paragraph about how to make leaves). I made a spring, arranged in oval shape to give the card good appearance. It gave good space to write wishes / greetings.

I used to have a hard time making fringed flowers with scissor earlier. After I started using fringe tool, it took 10 min to fringe about 20 strips.

How to make leaves ?
Take 1 inch wide cardstock. Fold it in middle, draw half leaf shape and cut it to get symmetric leaf. We can touch it up at edges to get attractive, natural leaf shape. I’ve used embossing tool to draw veins.

I made the cover with flower and springs for this card.

Quilled Birthday Card

I used tri-fold card with oval opening.

The Quilled butterflies in this card is an idea of Claire Sun-ok Choi. She is a great quiller. I learnt so many techniques by visiting her blog.
It took nearly 3 hr to me for design and arrange all things in place.

Quilled Frame Work

I made this quilled frame art by reading Claire Sun-ok Choi book "The Art of Paper Quilling". I bought the book in Amazon. It is a good book for learners.

It looks like a small lily bush. All the White flowers are made with marquise shapes. For the marquise shape I have used 3m.m white strips. For the center of the flower I used yellow 1.5m.m strips (I made it by cutting 3 m.m yellow strip in to half by length-wise).

For quilled flower arrangements insects added a new look. I have added a blue butterfly made with 2 bunny ears and 2 teardrops.

Total size of the art work is 18.5x13.5 c.m.
